"It's amazing how quickly you can fall in love with something that you didn't even know you had a heart for!" Suzie, GIT Member

The GIT program has gained wide community support since its beginning on February 5, 2000. We are fortunate to receive funding from several sources: The Arise Foundation, Glaser Foundation, South Whidbey Schools Foundation, Ward Foundation, CK Websites, and Big Mind Media.
This program has three main components:
1. The GIT participants meet 1-2 times per week after school for program activities that include: computer/technology instruction, guest speaker presentations, robotics, computer hardware investigation, environmental science exploration, etc. We are working on projects together too: a movie, website, and a quilt using high-tech sewing machines!
2. Field trips are a fun way to experience technology and how it’s used in “real life.” We’ve gone to the Pt. Townsend Marine Science Center, the “Expanding Your Horizons in Math, Science and Technology” conference, the University of Washington School of Engineering open house, the Pacific Science Center and more.

3. GIT participants are matched with a mentor who will:

  • help them understand the relationship between their interests and basic academic skills,
  • help identify how technology can augment and support their interests,
  • inform about career opportunities and the steps required to get there,
  • help combat negative stereotypes girls have about computers, science and math
